Havells HD3151 Hair Dryer

A foldable 1200 W dryer with hot, warm and cool settings, a separate cool shot and a stated 90°C top temperature, whose listing and brand page agree on the basics.

  • Hot, warm and cool, plus a cool shot
  • 90°C top temperature stated
  • 335 g with a 1.6 m cord

Most hair dryer listings on Amazon.in promise the same things, and the details underneath often don't hold together. Wattage fields disagree with titles, a few listings never give a warranty term, and some models are still on sale after their own brand has marked them discontinued.

We read 30 Amazon.in listings, shortlisted 23 and compared them on power, heat settings, weight, cord length, warranty and what comes in the box. For 11 of the dryers, from Philips, Havells, AGARO, Vega and Beardo, we also read the brand's own product page. The other 12, including the Dyson and the Laifen, rest on their listings alone. Six listings were cut because they are hot air brushes, stylers or combo sets rather than plain dryers, and one of those was a Beardo dryer sold in a set with a roller brush. Nobody here has used these dryers; this is a reading of what the listings and brands put in writing.

Our pick for most people is the Havells HD3151, a foldable 1200 W dryer with three heat settings, a separate cool shot and a stated top temperature, whose listing and Havells page agree on power, weight and box contents, with Havells' page adding a 1.6 m cord. If you want a bigger 2000 W dryer with a diffuser, look at the AGARO HD-1120 (33532). If ionic drying is what you're after, the Vega VHDH-35 says so plainly on both its listing and Vega's own page.

Havells HD3151 Hair Dryer

Why it's on the list

  • Hot, warm and cool, plus a cool shot
  • 90°C top temperature stated
  • 335 g with a 1.6 m cord

Worth knowing

  • The listing's wattage field reads 1600 Watts, while its title, its bullets and Havells' page all say 1200 W. The two also disagree on where it's made: the listing says China, Havells' page says India.
  • Neither the listing nor Havells' page says what the 2-year guarantee covers or leaves out. The listing gives Havells' toll-free number, 1800 103 1313, if you want to ask before ordering.
  • It isn't the lightest dryer here. The Pigeon 19004500 (245 g), Nova NHP-8100 (250 g), Philips BHD308/30 (280 g) and Havells HD1845 (299 g) all list less, as does a Nova 1000W listing with no model number at 190 g.

Skip it if you want a 2000 W dryer with a diffuser, or a dryer that lists ionic drying.

The reasoning

This is a small, foldable 1200 W dryer with three heat settings (hot, warm and cool) and a separate cool shot button. Its listing gives a top temperature of 90°C. Only 6 of the 23 shortlisted listings give a maximum temperature at all, and one of those is a three-piece styling set rather than a dryer.

Havells' own page agrees with the listing on the details we'd want settled before buying: 1200 W, 335 g, a foldable handle, a cool shot, double protection against overheating and a box holding the dryer, one nozzle and the instruction manual. The page adds a 1.6 m cord and a hanging loop, and both sources say plainly that it isn't an ionic dryer. Both give a 2-year guarantee.

Its closest rival is Havells' own HD3161, which lists the same three heat settings, cool shot, 90°C limit and 2-year guarantee. The HD3151 won on two counts. Havells' page for the HD3151 states its weight (335 g, matching the listing) and cord length, where the HD3161 page states neither; and the HD3161 listing doesn't settle its own weight, giving 450 g in its weight field and 310.0 Grams in its unit-count field. Philips' BHD308/30 lists 1600 W (one bullet says 1200W), three heat settings, a cool shot and a 1.8 m cord, but Philips' own India page marks it discontinued.

If you want more power and a diffuser

AGARO HD-1120 Professional Hair Dryer (33532)

AGARO · Pick 2 of 3

A 2000 W dryer with an AC motor, a diffuser, a concentrator, a comb and a 2.5 m cord, for people who want more power and a diffuser in the box.

Warranty
2 years, manufacturing defects onlyAmazon.in listing

Worth knowing

  • The 2-year term and the manufacturing-defects-only condition come from the Amazon.in listing. The AGARO page we read doesn't state a warranty term. The listing gives info@uclindia.com for queries.
  • If weight matters more than the warranty, two 2000 W listings come in lighter on paper: the Beardo Tornado at 500 g and the urbannova (sold as URBANNVOA) at 790 g. The Beardo listing gives no warranty term, and the urbannova warranty field reads "NO".
  • A features field on the listing includes "Ionic Technology", but neither its title, its bullets nor AGARO's page mentions ionic drying, so don't buy it for that.

Skip it if you want something light to hold, or don't have a 16 amp socket where you'd use it.

The reasoning

This one steps up to 2000 W, and both the listing and AGARO's own page call the motor an AC motor. It has 2 speeds and 3 temperature settings plus a cool shot, and it switches itself off if it overheats. The box, per AGARO's page, holds a diffuser, a concentrator nozzle and a comb, and the cord is 2.5 m, which gives you more room between the socket and the mirror than the Havells' 1.6 m.

Two practical things come with that power. On paper it is heavy: the listing gives 1 kg 20 g against 335 g for the Havells HD3151; AGARO's page gives no weight. And it ships with a 16A plug, which AGARO describes as an ISI-standard plug designed for the 2000 W load, so check that you have a 16 amp socket where you'll use it before ordering.

Only one other shortlisted listing names a diffuser: the Beardo Tornado, also 2000 W, with a concentrator, a diffuser and a comb. Its listing gives no warranty term, and Beardo's own page gives a 1.2 m cord. The Ikonic Pro 2100+ is another 2000 W dryer, but its listing gives a 1-year warranty and 1 kg 500 g, and lists two nozzles with no diffuser. AGARO's listing states 2 years and says what it covers.

If you want an ionic dryer

Vega Ionic Hair Dryer (VHDH-35)

Vega · Pick 3 of 3

A foldable 1200-1400 W dryer that both its listing and Vega's own page describe as ionic, with a cool shot and a back filter that comes off for cleaning.

Worth knowing

  • It has 2 heat and speed settings where the Havells HD3151 lists hot, warm and cool. If you want a choice of three temperatures, the Havells or the AGARO gives you that.
  • The power figure shifts depending on where you read it. A bullet and the wattage field on the listing, and the key features on Vega's page, say 1400W; the listing title and Vega's spec line say 1200-1400W.
  • Neither the listing nor Vega's page says what the 2-year warranty covers. The listing gives customercare@vega.co.in and 080-69496949 for queries.

Skip it if you want three separate heat settings, or ionic drying doesn't matter to you.

The reasoning

Ionic drying is the reason to pick this over the Havells. Vega's page and the listing both name ionic technology as a main feature, and Vega's page says it is meant to cut static and frizz. Past that it is a fairly plain foldable dryer: 2 heat and speed settings, a cool shot button, a detachable nozzle and a double-layer back filter that comes off so you can clean it. The listing gives 496 g.

A few other shortlisted listings mention ions in some form. The Laifen SE Lite advertises negative ions, but its listing gives no warranty term. Philips' BHD308/30 mentions ionic care in one bullet, but Philips' India page marks it discontinued. The Nova NHP-8100 lists ionic only in its drying-technology field and gives a 1-year warranty, and the AGARO 33532 has it only in a features field. We chose the Vega because the listing and the brand page both say it plainly, and both give 2 years of warranty.

Cut 7: 6 × not a hair dryer, by its own title · 1 × too little buyer history on Amazon.in

  • Cut 1 listing with too little buyer history on Amazon.in to include.
  • Cut 6 that are hot air brushes, stylers or combo sets rather than hair dryers. One was a Beardo dryer sold as a set with a roller brush, so at least one real dryer went out with the brushes. One three-piece Vega styling set that includes a dryer stayed on the shortlist.
  • Compared the 23 that were left on power, heat and speed settings, any stated top temperature, weight, cord length, warranty and box contents, and on whether the listing agrees with itself.
  • Checked eleven dryers from Philips, Havells, AGARO, Vega and Beardo against the brands' own product pages. The rest of the shortlist, including the Dyson and the Laifen, rests on its listings alone.

What we ruled out

  • Havells HD3161A close second. It lists the same three heat settings, cool shot, 90°C top temperature and 2-year guarantee as the HD3151, but Havells' page for it states neither weight nor cord length, and its listing gives two different figures (450 g in its weight field and 310.0 Grams in its unit-count field).
  • Philips BHD308/30On paper it has plenty: 1600 W (one bullet says 1200W), three heat settings with a cool shot, a 1.8 m cord and 280 g. But Philips' own India page marks it discontinued, and the two disagree on its main feature: the listing says the attachment drops the temperature by 15°C, Philips' page says 10°C.
  • Philips HP8120/00Philips' India page marks it discontinued, and the listing can't settle on its settings: the title says 2 heat settings, a bullet says 3.
  • Beardo Studio Professional TornadoA 2000 W dryer with a diffuser, concentrator and comb, like the AGARO, but neither the listing nor Beardo's product description gives a warranty term, and Beardo's page gives a 1.2 m cord against AGARO's 2.5 m.
  • Dyson Supersonic (560711-01)Its listing gives a 2-year warranty and a 100°C maximum, but we have no Dyson brand page to check the rest, and the listing disagrees with itself in two places: the title says 3 heat settings while a bullet lists four (28°C, 60°C, 80°C and 100°C), and a bullet promises 5 attachments while the Included Components field says "1 Hair Dryer". Our pick's listing has a wattage slip too; the difference is that Havells' own page settles it, which we couldn't do for the Dyson.
  • Laifen SE LiteThe listing gives no warranty term. It also gives two weights, 407g in a bullet and 345 g in the details table, and with no Laifen brand page we couldn't settle which is right.

Before you buy

  1. Check the model is still current

Philips' India site marks the BHD308/30, HP8120/00, HP8100/60 and BHC010/10 as discontinued, though all four still have Amazon.in listings. The HP8100/46 page doesn't carry that mark. A quick look at the brand's own page before ordering saves you buying a model the brand has marked discontinued.

  2. Check the wattage in more than one place

Several wattage fields don't match their own titles: the Havells HD3151 field says 1600 Watts for a 1200 W dryer, the Philips HP8120/00 says 120 Watts, the Ikonic Pro 2100+ says 200, and the Havells HD3161 gives its 1200 W in Watt Hours. Titles slip too, so confirm on the brand's page where you can.

  3. Look for a temperature figure

Only 6 of the 23 shortlisted listings give a maximum temperature. The Havells HD3151 and HD3161 say 90°C, Dyson's listing says 100°C, the Nova NHP-8100 gives a constant 60 degree setting, and the Philips HP8100/60 gives 149 degrees Fahrenheit. Most others don't say.

  4. A 2000 W dryer may need a bigger socket

The AGARO 33532 ships with a 16A plug, which its listing and AGARO's page both mention. Check what sockets you have near the mirror before ordering a high-wattage dryer.
