The short answer

Best for most people

Swiss Military PRIMUSPLUS 55cm Laptop Trolley (HTL120)

An ABS hard case that states a padded compartment for laptops up to 15.6 inches and lists 52 litres at 2 kg 200 g, for anyone who wants the laptop and the packing in one bag without adding much weight.

  • Laptop compartment up to 15.6 inches
  • 2 kg 200 g, least of the 13 shortlisted
  • 52 litres, same on Swiss Military's page

The 2 alternatives, for other needs

  1. If you want the laptop in a front pocketMokobara Transit Cabin Pro

A polycarbonate hard case with a hard-shell front pocket for a laptop up to 15.6 inches and a keyless TSA lock over both compartments, for travellers who want the laptop in a pocket of its own and can spare the weight.

  2. If you'd rather have a shorter overnighterSwiss Military Sirius 45cm Overnighter (LTB13)

A 45 cm hard-shell overnighter with a padded inside section for a 15.4 inch laptop and a 3-digit lock, for short trips where a 55 cm case is more bag than you need.

If you travel for work, you want the laptop in its own section of the cabin bag, and you want to know before ordering that your laptop will go in. Most listings for these bags put "laptop compartment" in the title but never say what size of laptop it takes. Of the 13 we compared, 4 say what size of laptop the compartment takes.

We read 30 Amazon.in listings and kept 13. Of the 17 we left out, 8 weren't cabin trolleys with a laptop compartment, 2 repeated a Mokobara model already on the list in another colour, and 7 had too little buyer history on Amazon.in to include. Nobody here has handled any of these bags. This is a reading of the listings and the brands' own pages, and we say where those run out.

Our pick is the Swiss Military PRIMUSPLUS, a 55 cm ABS hard case whose listing gives a padded compartment for laptops up to 15.6 inches, 52 litres and 2 kg 200 g, with Swiss Military's own page agreeing on all three. If you want the laptop in a pocket on the front, the Mokobara Transit Cabin Pro has a hard-shell front pocket for up to 15.6 inches, though it lists 3 kg 460 g. And for short trips, Swiss Military's 45 cm Sirius overnighter gives a padded section for a 15.4 inch laptop at 2 kg 500 g.

Why it's on the list

  • Laptop compartment up to 15.6 inches
  • 2 kg 200 g, least of the 13 shortlisted
  • 52 litres, same on Swiss Military's page

Worth knowing

  • The details table says 8 wheels, but a bullet describes four multi-directional spinner wheels, and Swiss Military's page only says 360° rotatable wheels. Ask the seller if the count matters to you.
  • The listing and Swiss Military's page call the warranty international, but its warranty policy covers India only. The policy also excludes rain or water damage, though the listing calls the bag water resistant, and damage from mishandling in transit. The rest of the terms are in the warranty row.
  • Neither the listing nor Swiss Military's page mentions a TSA lock. Swiss Military's policy describes its locks as delaying devices meant only to stop accidental opening, which can't necessarily prevent theft.

Skip it if you need the listing to confirm a front laptop pocket, or need a lock the listing calls TSA-approved.

The reasoning

The PRIMUSPLUS listing does what most of the others here don't: it puts a number on the laptop. The title gives a 15.6” laptop slot, and a bullet describes a padded compartment for devices up to 15.6 inches, along with a tablet and iPad sleeve and a file holder. Swiss Military's own page repeats the 15.6 inch figure. On the shortlist, only this bag, the Sirius and the two Mokobara Transit bags state a laptop size at all.

It also lists less weight than any other bag on the shortlist, 2 kg 200 g, against 2 kg 500 g for the Sirius and 3 kg 460 g for the Mokobara Transit Cabin Pro, and it lists 52 litres against their 39 and 40, though Swiss Military's litre figures equal its outer dimensions multiplied out, so against the Mokobara, whose 40 litres is less than its outer dimensions multiplied out (about 46), the gap is smaller than it looks. Swiss Military's page gives the same 52 litres and 2.20 kg and sets out the size as 35 x 27 x 55 cm with 55 cm as the height. The listing's details table labels them 55 L x 27 W x 35 H, which would make it 35 cm tall, against the 55cm in its title and on Swiss Military's page.

What neither source says is where the laptop compartment sits. The bullet calls it easily accessible for airport security checks but never mentions a front pocket, and Swiss Military's page doesn't either. Mokobara does describe a hard-shell front pocket, which is why the Transit Cabin Pro is the alternative if that matters more to you than weight.

Mokobara Transit Cabin Pro

  • Covers: repair or replacement of defective material or components; the product page lists shell cracks and dents, wheels and zippers.
  • Main exclusions: regular wear and tear, per Mokobara's FAQ. The other exclusions on its product page (theft and loss, overpacking, scratches and scuffs, heat, fire and chemicals) belong to its separate Ctrl+Z airline damage cover, which excludes Amazon purchases.
  • Decides: not stated.
  • Shipping: not stated.
  • Documents: invoice, photos and a video of the issue, per its claim form.
Amazon.in listing, Mokobara Transit Cabin Pro page, Mokobara FAQ, warranty claim form and Ctrl+Z policy

Why it's on the list

  • Hard-shell front pocket, up to 15.6 inch
  • Keyless TSA lock covers both compartments
  • 40 litres at 56 cm, as Mokobara's page says

Worth knowing

  • The listing's own fields disagree on colour: the title says Blue, the colour field says We Meet Again Sunray 2.0. Its model number, THATCP10CSML22001, isn't one of the variant codes on Mokobara's page, so check the colour shown on the listing before ordering. The size, weight and capacity match Mokobara's page.
  • The product page offers a year of airline damage cover with the bag, but Mokobara's Ctrl+Z policy says that cover doesn't apply to purchases from marketplaces including Amazon. Its warranty claim form does list Amazon as a place of purchase. Mokobara's pages don't say who decides a claim or who pays shipping; the rest of the terms are in the warranty row.
  • The listing's water-resistance field reads Not Water Resistant, while its special-features field lists Water-Resistant.

Skip it if you want to keep the bag's own weight down.

The reasoning

Mokobara puts the laptop in a hard-shell pocket on the front of the case. The listing and Mokobara's own page both say it takes up to a 15.6 inch laptop, along with a slim power bank, passports and an iPad. By Mokobara's description, the keyless TSA lock secures the front pocket and the main compartment together. Of the four shortlisted bags that state a laptop size, the two Mokobaras are the ones that describe the compartment as a front pocket.

The trade-off is weight. It lists 3 kg 460 g, more than a kilo over the PRIMUSPLUS, and lists 40 litres against the PRIMUSPLUS's 52, though Swiss Military's 52 is its outer dimensions multiplied out, which for the Mokobara would come to about 46. Mokobara's page agrees with the listing on 56 x 34.5 x 24 cm, 3.46 kg and 40 litres, though one image caption further down the same page says 3.4 kg.

The Skybags Zephyre also has a front-opening laptop compartment and a TSA lock, and lists 3 kg. The Mokobara is heavier, but it states the laptop size, which neither the Zephyre's listing nor VIP's page for it does.

If you'd rather have a shorter overnighter

Swiss Military Sirius 45cm Overnighter (LTB13)

Swiss Military · Pick 3 of 3

A 45 cm hard-shell overnighter with a padded inside section for a 15.4 inch laptop and a 3-digit lock, for short trips where a 55 cm case is more bag than you need.

Why it's on the list

  • Padded section for a 15.4 inch laptop
  • 45 cm tall, 2 kg 500 g, 39 litres
  • 3-digit combination lock

Worth knowing

  • As on the PRIMUSPLUS, the details table says 8 wheels while a bullet describes 4 wheels, and Swiss Military's page gives no count.
  • The bullets and Swiss Military's page say polycarbonate, but the listing's material field says PC-ABS.
  • Swiss Military's warranty policy applies here too: India only, though the listing says international, and no cover for rain or water damage, though the listing calls the bag water resistant, or for damage from mishandling in transit. Its policy also describes the lock as a delaying device that can't necessarily prevent theft. The rest of the terms are in the warranty row.

Skip it if you need the room of a full 55 cm case, or want the laptop in a front pocket.

The reasoning

The Sirius is a smaller kind of bag: 45 cm tall, where the other two picks stand 55 and 56 cm. Its listing and Swiss Military's page both give a padded section for a 15.4 inch laptop, and the listing describes it as a separate section inside. It lists 39 litres, 2 kg 500 g and a 3-digit combination lock.

The other short bag on the shortlist that states a laptop size is Mokobara's Transit Cabin Overnighter, sold as 45cm, which has a front tech compartment for up to 15.6 inches and a keyless TSA lock. But it lists 3 kg 490 g against the Sirius's 2 kg 500 g. Mokobara gives its size as 45 x 48 x 24 cm (L x W x D), while the listing's details table gives 45 x 24 x 48 cm with 48 cm as the height.

The Sirius's depth is where its sources part. The listing gives 38 x 13 x 45 cm and Swiss Military's page 38 x 23 x 45 cm. Multiplied out, the listing's figures come to far less than the 39 litres listed, while 38 x 23 x 45 cm comes to about 39, so the page's 23 cm looks the likelier figure, but confirm with the seller if the depth matters.

What we ruled out

  • Skybags Zephyre Small Cabin (ZEPHYS55PWG)The closest call. VIP's page for the Zephyre Small in grey confirms a front-opening laptop compartment, a flushed TSA lock, 8 wheels and 37 litres (the listing says 36.8), and the listing gives 3 kg, less than the Mokobara. But neither the listing nor VIP's page gives a laptop size, so there's nothing to check your laptop against before ordering.
  • Safari Genius (PARADOX554WGLU, PARADOX554WGNM) and Thorium Neo with laptop compartment (THORIUMNEOFO554WGLU)All three listings give 43 litres, 2 kg 700 g, 35 x 25 x 55 cm and a 3-year international warranty, with a dedicated laptop section. None says what size of laptop that section takes, and Safari's online store doesn't list either model, so there's no brand page to fill the gap.
  • Aristocrat Solana Cabin (SOLANB55GRY, SOLANB55GRN)VIP's page describes a front laptop opening and gives 37 x 23 x 53 cm and 2.95 kg / 34 Litres, matching the listings, but its laptop size field just reads YES and the listings give no size either.
  • American Tourister Liftoff FTL Cabin (ME5 (0) 09 919)Its title gives a laptop compartment and a recessed TSA lock with a USB port, and it lists 2 kg 560 g, though its own fields give its capacity as both 45 litres and 32 litres. But it gives no laptop size, and American Tourister's India store doesn't list it, so there's no brand page to fill the gap.
  • Mokobara Transit Cabin OvernighterIt states a front tech compartment for up to a 15.6 inch laptop and a keyless TSA lock, and lists 44 litres. Mokobara's page agrees on its weight. But it lists 3 kg 490 g, about a kilo more than the Sirius's 2 kg 500 g. Like the Sirius, its sources set out the size differently: Mokobara gives 45 x 48 x 24 cm (L x W x D), while the listing's details table gives 48 cm as the height.
  • The Assembly Rover Pro 55cmIts listing describes a quick-access front compartment and 3 packing organisers included, but it gives no laptop size and lists 4 kg 240 g, the heaviest on the shortlist.

Before you buy

  1. Look for a laptop size, not just the word laptop

Of the 13 shortlisted listings, 4 state what the compartment takes: the PRIMUSPLUS and both Mokobara Transit bags say up to 15.6 inches, the Sirius 15.4 inches. The rest say laptop compartment and stop there. If your laptop is bigger than 15.6 inches, none of these listings says it will go in.

  2. Check where the compartment is

Both Mokobaras, the Skybags Zephyre, the SNITCH Rubik and The Assembly Rover describe a front compartment, and VIP's page gives the Aristocrat Solana a front laptop opening. The Sirius listing describes a separate laptop section inside. The PRIMUSPLUS, Safari and American Tourister listings don't say where theirs is.

  3. Check the size and weight against your airline yourself

None of the 13 listings names an airline, though the SNITCH Rubik's bullet calls it airline approved without saying whose. Listed weights on the shortlist run from 2 kg 200 g (the PRIMUSPLUS) to 4 kg 240 g (The Assembly Rover Pro). Compare the listed dimensions with your airline's published cabin limit before ordering.

  4. Read the warranty terms, not just the years

Swiss Military's warranty policy covers its products in India only, even though both listings, and Swiss Military's own PRIMUSPLUS page, say international. Mokobara's FAQ describes an international warranty that allows a full refund, but no servicing outside India. Swiss Military's policy excludes damage from mishandling in transit, and Mokobara's separate airline damage cover doesn't apply to Amazon purchases. Both brands exclude wear and tear; Swiss Military's policy also excludes scratches and damage from extreme heat, solvents or acids. What else each excludes, who decides a claim, who pays shipping and what a claim needs are in each pick's warranty row, and Mokobara's pages leave two of those unsaid.

The Swiss Military PRIMUSPLUS and both Mokobara Transit bags say up to 15.6 inches, and the Swiss Military Sirius says 15.4 inches. The other nine shortlisted listings, including the Safari Genius and the Skybags Zephyre, give no laptop size.

Does the PRIMUSPLUS have a front laptop pocket?

The Swiss Military PRIMUSPLUS listing doesn't say: it describes a padded compartment for up to 15.6 inches without saying where it sits, and Swiss Military's page doesn't either. Of the three picks, the Mokobara Transit Cabin Pro is the one that describes a hard-shell front pocket.

Do the three laptop cabin bags have a TSA lock?

The Mokobara Transit Cabin Pro does: its listing and Mokobara's page describe a keyless TSA lock that secures both compartments. The PRIMUSPLUS details table lists a combination lock and the Sirius has a 3-digit combination lock, and neither listing mentions TSA.

Will these laptop cabin bags fit my airline's cabin limit?

This guide can't confirm it for any airline: the Swiss Military PRIMUSPLUS, Mokobara Transit Cabin Pro and Swiss Military Sirius listings don't name one. Swiss Military's page gives the PRIMUSPLUS as 35 x 27 x 55 cm, the Mokobara lists 34.5 x 24 x 56 cm, and the Sirius lists 38 x 13 x 45 cm (38 x 23 x 45 cm on Swiss Military's page). Check those figures and the weights against your airline's own published limit.

Is the Swiss Military or Mokobara warranty valid outside India?

Swiss Military's own sources disagree: its warranty policy says its products are warranted against manufacturing defects in India only, while the PRIMUSPLUS listing, Swiss Military's PRIMUSPLUS page and the Sirius listing call the warranty international. For the Mokobara Transit Cabin Pro, Mokobara's FAQ describes an international warranty that allows a full refund, with no servicing outside India and a replacement if you can visit India.

Which of these laptop cabin bags weighs the least?

The Swiss Military PRIMUSPLUS lists 2 kg 200 g, less than any other bag on the shortlist. The Sirius lists 2 kg 500 g and the Mokobara Transit Cabin Pro 3 kg 460 g.
